Vroonland is led by designer Sjoerd Vroonland and product developer Arjan Vaandrager (V&V), operating their label since 2010, with chairs as a thread. Leading in the design process for Vroonland is the overall question: is a chair purely functional? Is it a showpiece and a visual story? Or is it an expression of technical know-how and therefore representative of its era? With this topic they deconstruct 19th and 20th century design classics and translate the craftsmanship of the pieces to develop new techniques.
Design pedigree
With his pedigree Vroonland shows his vision and the genesis of a product to its final design. Vroonland exposes the products and illustrates that traditional technique is as effective and innovative as it can be. Examining and exploring the means and usage of design classics will create new perceptions and functions. This eventually leads to a pedigree or an evaluation within the Vroonland collection.
Commission
Vroonland also works on commission base. Together with the client they discuss the idea and options to get a clear view. It’s their goal to design something for the client where he recognizes himself. After the meeting the idea will be translated into a final design.
Vroonland bestaat uit ontwerper Sjoerd Vroonland en product ontwikkelaar Arjan Vaandrager (V&V), die in 2010 gestart zijn met hun label. Rode draad binnen de collectie zijn stoelen en de vraag wat een stoel in onze tijd betekent: is een stoel puur functie of een pronkstuk dan wel beeldend verhaal, een uitdrukking van een tijdsbeeld en daarmee ook van het technische kunnen in een tijd? Met dit uitgangspunt deconstrueert Vroonland 19e en 20 eeuwse design klassiekers en vertaalt de ambacht naar vernieuwende technieken.
Stamboom
Met de stamboom geeft Vroonland inzicht in zijn ontwerpervisie en geeft op deze manier het ontstaan van een product weer tot het uiteindelijke design. Vroonland ontbloot de producten en laat zien dat de ambachtelijke toegepaste techniek nog even doeltreffend en vernieuwend kan zijn. Door te kijken wat design klassiekers in hun tijd betekenen en te onderzoeken, wat voor toepassing en of uitwerking ze nu hebben, ontstaan er nieuwe inzichten en toepassingen. Dit leidt uiteindelijk tot een stamboom of evaluatie binnen de Vroonland collectie.
Opdrachten
Vroonland werkt ook in opdracht. Samen met de opdrachtgever bespreken zij de verschillende ideeën en voorstellen om een duidelijk beeld te krijgen. Het doel van Vroonland is om iets te ontwerpen voor de klant waar hij/zij zichzelf herkent. Na de bespreking wordt het idee uitgewerkt tot een definitief ontwerp.
